EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The Board of Education is dedicated to educating students to develop desired moral, ethical, and cultural values, to stimulate and expand a continual learning process and to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of American citizens, which will enable them to function effectively as independent individuals in a democratic society.
The educational program will be guided by the following core principles and guidelines:
- We are committed to providing students with a rich and meaningful secondary school experience that leads them into opportunities in their lives beyond high school.
- We place at the core our educational philosophy the use of teaching practices and curricula that enable students to construct meaning.
- We have high expectations for all students, and staff provides all students with rigorous cognitive, physical and social challenges.
- We are committed to understanding students’ needs, wants and goals and to support all students in their efforts to be successful.
- We believe that success is demonstrated through a variety of methods, such as student projects, portfolios, performances, high stakes examinations and active participation in classroom activities.
- We value life-long learning, and provide opportunities for all members of the VSCHSD community to reflect on their learning and continue their growth and improvement.
- We foster trust, respect, honesty and responsibility as personal characteristics.
- We expect all members of the community to demonstrate responsibility and honesty and to earn trust through their daily behaviors, attitudes and dispositions.
